However, there was no significant transition in network structure, with AOD-using and recovery networks both consisting of strong ties and a similar density of connections between people in the networks. There was a significant transition in network composition, with the replacing of AOD-using peers with recovery peers and a broader transformation from relationships being framed as negative to positive. These were complemented with qualitative interview data. Measures included size and density, closeness of members, and their positive or negative influence, proportion of alcohol and other drug (AOD) using and recovery peers, and extent of separate subgroups. Network measures were compared between two timepoints, just prior to current recovery and the present time. Ten men were recruited from a peer-worker programme, in the South Ayrshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership (ADP), West of Scotland. To understand how the social networks of a new recovery community can help sustain recovery, focusing on processes of social identity change, in the context of the wider UK recovery movement.Ī cross-sectional, mixed-methods social network analysis (SNA) of ego-network sociograms to map network transitions, using retrospective measures. We conclude with an analysis of what community-based recovery groups and the wider recovery movement can contribute to a contemporary understanding of prefigurative politics. To illustrate our argument, we provide examples of community-based recovery groups and the approaches they use in addressing the identified needs of their recovery community. We argue that collective action in recovery groups is derived from the formation of an opinion-based social identity and results in alternative approaches to unmet needs, creatively addressing these identified needs through the utilisation of personal, social and collective resources within an emerging recovery community. ![]() In applying a contemporary analysis to prefigurative politics, we explore the contribution of community-based recovery groups to the recovery movement, a socio-political movement in the fields of mental health and addiction treatment. Maybe a 21st century “No Mercy” from the self-titled album? A very Deep Purple feel with a lyric even borrowed from “Highway Star.” This one has a lot of raw grit to it. And, it still is one of the best things on the record. This was the first song they put out there from a live performance in England. “It’s All the Same To Me” is the opener and sounds like classic Guns N’ Roses meets classic L.A. This is a much more rich album when it comes to content both musically and lyrically. Because, that feeling faded fairly quickly when you started to feel like some of the songs on the album were either incomplete or light on content. Guns fans’ spot and fill them with that strange “this is what I wanted” feeling like that album did. And, this is that result. So, here we are! The Missing Peace is the name of the new album and unlike Hollywood Forever, this one might not immediately hit L.A. It was clear Phil and Tracii would work together again. The two finally came together at a show in late 2015 and by the end of 2016, Phil had quit the Steve Riley version of L.A. The latter was not at all in my interest base. He also did other bands such as a band with Rikki Rockett called Devil City Angels and a proggy album called League Of Gentlemen or something like that. Guns with various singers including someone he went to school with, Jizzy Pearl who sang for the band on the Shrinking Violet album in 1999, and even a woman who I won’t name both because I don’t know her name and because she was not worth mentioning. Meanwhile, Tracii went on to release a demo quality album with Nikki Sixx called Brides Of Destruction. There’d be a song where Phil would let loose on vocals and you’d get a proggy guitar solo that did not fit or there would be a sleazy rocker that would just feel forced. Though there were a few initially good tracks, the overall release felt incomplete at times and the musical differences between the band members became more evident. Hollywood Forever, on the other hand, had less by way of moments of greatness. In fact, my three page review of Tales From The Strip for Sleaze Roxx ended up printed, in full, in Stacey Blades‘ autobiography with no personal credit given to me whatsoever. The first one was a solid release and had moments of greatness. Those records did not have Tracii on them. Guns name with the name co-owner Steve Riley releasing two original albums, 2005’s Tales From The Strip and 2012’s Hollywood Forever. Since Waking The Dead, Phil continued with the L.A. ![]() Do I really want to go into all of that? Maybe a little. But, it was upon the release of that album that the shit hit the fan with this band and it split like an atom into two parts. This is the first time the two have put out a new album together since 2002’s Waking The Deadalbum which, in my humble opinion, is one of the most spirited and inspired albums by a veteran band I’ve ever heard. The current form of the band has two important parts consisting of singer Phil Lewis and founding member / guitarist Tracii Guns. ![]() From autographed posters on the wall to multiple concert t-shirts, I am a major fan of this band and have been a fan of almost all its forms over the years. It was revealed during his stand-up routine in Phoenix, Arizona, on September 22, 2019, that back in 1989, he was talking to his cousin about making a stage name when his aunt called him to come to dinner, shouting "Jo Ko, eat!" SA: God of the Wharf: Hot Chowder is glorious–we put in a special camera just to show off that billboard in Day of the Dolphin. Any favorites or particularly obscure ones that you’d like to tell us about? GS: The Simpsons Game, like the show, is littered with pop-culture references. The writers said, “No, dolphins are the new zombies,” and in a stroke changed a simple zombie knockoff into Day of the Dolphin! In general, once the story and episode set was worked out, we’d go back and forth with concept art and discussing story references to come up with all of the right characters to put into this crazy world. At one time the game team was adamant about having zombies come alive from the graveyard in Act 2–when Kang and Kodos invade. SA: Everything created for the game was always worked out with all of the creative partners. Did the show’s creators have input into those characters or were they made entirely by the game’s artists? GS: You’ve said that a large number of the characters in the game were created specifically for the game. Many of the visual gags were similarly worked out in concept art, then we’d build a space and look for ways to cram more pieces into it like signage, posters, symbolic statues from other games, etc. Then the writers were given dialogue spec sheets for how many lines of story or chatter we needed in the game, and they’d work with the design team to fit it all in. All level designs would start with a high-concept of how it will fit into the overall story then details would be refined with the writers on which characters should be in there, what are the main points for gameplay purposes, and what are the key story points that need conveyed. SA: Since we had the core concept of the Simpsons being self-aware that they are inside a video game, we had a plethora of material to choose from to start parodying the game industry. GS: In terms of game design, what came first: the levels or the jokes? In other words, did you build the levels in The Simpsons Game around concepts discussed during the writing process, or did you tailor your plot/jokes/dialogue to the levels that were already there? Matt and the writers had continuous feedback on the game’s content, from look and feel to puzzles and playfield it’s been an amazing partnership. No one wanted a “Simpsons meets latest genre name” game–everyone wanted something that fully displayed the Simpsons universe, was true to the fans of the show, and was, in its own right, a great new game. The core story concept comes directly from that team. ![]() ![]() Scot Amos (SA): Intimately! From the start, this was a brainchild of the writers and creators of the show to do something epic and new within the Simpsons franchise. GameSpot (GS): How closely have you worked with Matt Groening and the writers who work on the TV show? |
